The PrimaryScript Switcher v.1.0.1 is a utility that changes the operating system's default script. For example, when using the Japanese Language Kit with control panels that display in Japanese (such as EGBridge 5.2) it is necessary to change the default script to Japanese.
These programs also require that the default script be switched to Japanese:
• QuarkXpress Japanese cannot be installed without switching scripts.
• Excel 4.0J cannot run unless the default script is switched to Japanese.
• PageMaker 5.0J displays menus in unreadable characters if the default script is not Japanese.
This current revision (Version 1.01) correctly displays the Script System names as based on "Inside Macintosh: Text".
Operating Environment
System 7.1 or later installed with multiple scripts.
Attention Please!
Because the PrimaryScript Switcher directly rewrites a system resource, please do not fail to back up your system before using this utility! Also, there has been no testing with scripts other than Roman and Japanese (e.g. Chinese).
Method of Use
When the PrimaryScript Switcher is launched, it displays a list of the names of the current default script and the other installed script(s) . Choose the name of the script that you want to change to and then click "Switch". To make the change effective, click on "Restart" when the PrimaryScript Switcher asks for verification. The system will now start up with a new default script.
In the case of the Japanese Language Kit, the system menus will change from probably the Chicago font to the Osaka system font.
